About 75 percent of hospitals in a recent HIMSS Analytics survey anticipate being able to attest to meaningful use stage 2 in 2014.
As of June 2013, just two of the 418 hospitals surveyed had met all of the meaningful use stage 2 criteria. However, more than 60 percent had met at least nine of the 16 criteria. More were making strides through IT investments; 25 percent reported plans to invest at least $1 million in new technology.
The report is based on responses collected between January and June 2013. The majority of hospitals surveyed were general medical/surgical hospitals (65 percent), 21 percent were critical access hospitals, 7 percent were academic medical centers and the remaining 6 percent were pediatric and other hospitals.
