Hill-Rom, a global medical technology company, will purchase mobile healthcare communications company Voalte to enhance the company's digital and mobile capabilities.
Four things to know:
1. Hill-Rom will pay $180 million for Voalte, which currently serves more than 200 healthcare customers and 84,000 devices on its mobile platform.
2. Voalte's communication platform connects 220,000 caregivers across the healthcare industry. It supports communications including alarm, voice and text.
3. Hill-Rom will integrate its care communications services with Voalte's technology to improve its connected solutions, such as smart hospital beds and vital signs monitors.
"Interoperability and connectivity have become critical elements in providing quality healthcare, reducing length of stay and driving efficiencies across the healthcare continuum," Hill-Rom President and CEO John P. Groetelaars said in a news release. "This transaction strategically fits with our vision of advancing connected care to improve workflow and real-time actionable insights at the point of care, while driving accelerated growth and delivering an attractive margin profile.
4. The acquisition is expected to close during Hill-Rom's third quarter of 2019.
