HHS Acting Secretary Eric Hargan appointed three individuals to the Health Information Technology Advisory Committee, a group created under the 21st Century Cures Act, to make recommendations to ONC on implementing national and local health IT infrastructure.
HHS was charged with nominating three members to the committee — one of the three had to represent HHS and another had to be a public health official. The newest appointees join 15 Government Accountability Office-appointed members who will serve one-, two- or three-year terms. Additionally, Congressional leaders are set to appoint eight members, six of which have been announced.
Here are the three newly appointed HITAC members.
1. Public health appointment: Leslie Lenert, MD, chief research information officer of Charleston-based Medical University of South Carolina
2. HHS representative appointment: Clem McDonald, MD, director of Bethesda, Md.-based Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications
3. General appointment: Robert Wah, MD, global chief medical officer of McLean, Va.-based DXC Technology
