Bloomington, Minn.-based HealthPartners' Virtuwell has expanded to the East Coast — Virginians and those traveling or working in the state can now receive care from the online medical clinic, according to a report in The Washington Post.
Through the Virtuwell clinic, nurse practitioners are able to prescribe medication for common, acute conditions such as colds or allergies. Patients pay $45 (covered by some insurance plans) to answer online questions about their condition and receive a message from a nurse with a treatment plan and any necessary prescriptions, according to the report.
The service is now available in six states: Virginia, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Michigan, according to the report. The clinic's expansion to more areas has been limited because of the need to receive approval from each state's medical licensing board, according to the report.
