Healthcare sign-up extended until tax season

HHS will extend the deadline to sign up for health insurance through HealthCare.gov in 37 states until tax season.

Sign-ups were supposed to close at the end of February, but HHS announced it would extend the deadline to save people who were unaware of the deadline from having to pay a penalty for not having coverage, according to the New York Times. The fees begin at $95 or 1 percent of an individual's income.

The announcement comes after the revelation that 800,000 health insurance enrollees had received incorrect tax information. The federal government has urged enrollees to wait to file their taxes until the cause is determined and correct information is distributed.
