Where's the market for health IT? When considering who is using healthcare the most, the answer may be "with the baby boomers," according to a report from The Washington Post.
Whether technologies are geared toward caretakers of aging parents or baby boomers themselves, health IT companies are increasingly jumping on the bandwagon, creating technologies that are more user-friendly, more intuitive and more in tune with the issues baby boomers face in their healthcare, according to the report.
Innovations range from pharmaceutical (pill reminder or mail-order pharmacies) to practical (alerts for groceries or sensors to detect falls).
According to Kelsey Cole, director of a shared space for start-ups in Cambridge, Mass., baby boomers are used to top-of-the-line design in their consumer technology and will look for no less as they interact with technology to manage their health and wellness.
"There's a massive market opportunity for entrepreneurs and venture capitalists to build companies that proactively address the needs of baby boomers as they age," said Mr. Cole to the Post.
