The future looks bright for careers in health IT. As health IT continues to grow and expand, so will the opportunities for careers in this sector, as indicated by the growth in compensation.
Here are 10 findings and statistics on CIO salaries, according to the 2014 HealthITJobs.com salary survey.
The survey represents 697 responses from a survey administered by HealthITJobs.com
1. The average salary of a health IT worker is $89,879.
2. Men, on average, make nearly $17,000 more a year than women. The average salary for men in health IT is $99,567, compared with $82,036 for women.
3. Thirty percent of respondents indicating receiving an average bonus of $13,100.
4. The majority of health IT professionals — 52 percent — are 44 years old or younger.
5. The average health IT professional has eight years of experience.
6. The amount of experience also impacts salary. Professionals with two years or less experience report an average salary of $70,159. Those with more than 20 years of experience report an average salary of $145,133.
7. Healthcare workers who have a certification make an average of $95,689 compared to those who don't have certification who make an average of $82,367.
8. Health IT professionals in the Mid-Atlantic region have the highest average salaries, at $105,923. The Midwest reports the lowest average salaries, at $81,256.
9. Project managers report the highest average salaries ($111,649) and those in IT training report the lowest ($74,227).
10. Health IT professionals working with consulting companies report the highest average salaries, at $109,715. Those working in clinics report an average of $66,843.
