The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology has launched its certification program for electronic health records, which was created to certify EHRs that help healthcare providers meet the criteria of stage one meaningful use set by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, according to a CCHIT news release.
The certification will be offered for complete EHRs that meet all of the HHS criteria and EHR modules that meet one or more, but not all, of the criteria, according to the news release.
CCHIT is an organization authorized by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology to be an Authorized Testing and Certification Body. ONC-ATCBs are authorized to test and certify electronic health systems to ensure compliance to standards and certification criteria set by HHS earlier this year. ONC-ATCB certification ensures EHR products will support healthcare providers' achievement of meaningful use.
