HCA, UHS See EHR Incentive Payments Drop in Q1

Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America and King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services both received smaller electronic health record incentive payments during the first quarter of 2014 than they did in the first quarter of 2013.

This quarter, HCA reported $30 million in EHR incentive income, down from $39 million during Q1 2013. UHS brought in $430,000, a significant drop from the $4.7 million received during the same period last year.

This is consistent with the general slow start to EHR incentive payments this year. As of March, CMS had given incentives to just nine hospitals in 2014, compared with the 3,816 hospitals paid during 2013.
