Boston-based Harvard Medical School installed John Halamka, MD, as its inaugural International Healthcare Innovation Professor. Dr. Halamka is senior vice president of information systems and CIO of Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Dr. Halamka is also chair of the New England Healthcare Exchange Network, overseeing clinical and administrative data exchange among healthcare stakeholders in Massachusetts.
Dr. Halamka is a practicing emergency medicine physician and editor-in-chief of the online, peer-review journal Blockchain in Healthcare Today.

The professorship aims to support incumbents as they "continue to advance medical innovation and progress in the international health care information technology landscape," said Nancy Tarbell, dean for academic and clinical affairs and the HMS C.C. Wang Professor of Radiation Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Havy International and its president, Ben Zhou, helped make the International Healthcare Innovation Professorship possible. Havy International is a consulting firm based in Hong Kong and China.
