The Consumer Electronics Association, a trade association representing the $208 billion consumer electronics industry, will launch a new health and fitness technology division in response to increasing consumer demand for personal health and fitness devices.
According to the CEA, sales of personal health devices will increase 142 percent over the next five years. The new division, which began as a workgroup in 2010, will help promote the use of personal fitness devices to consumers as well as provide networking and educational opportunities for member companies.
"Technology innovations now offer unprecedented opportunities for consumers to take control of their health and engage in their personal fitness," said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA, in a news release. "Under CEA's leadership, the health and fitness division brings together a group of proven leaders in the space to further raise awareness that these products can help us change our lives for the better."
