London, U.K.-based DeepMind — Google's artificial intelligence arm — plans to open its first international artificial intelligence research office in Edmonton, Canada.
The AI research office will work in close collaboration with Edmonton-based University of Alberta, according to DeepMind officials. Rich Sutton, PhD; Michael Bowling, PhD; and Patrick M. Pilarski, PhD; will lead the office, called DeepMind Alberta. All three researchers will continue their professorships at UAlberta along with their roles at DeepMind.
DeepMind officials also intend to provide funding to support long-term AI programs at UAlberta.
