Google and Dallas-based Zix Corporation, an email data protection provider, have announced the launch of Google Apps Message Encryption that provides Google app users with secure email when communicating with users outside of Google's cloud.
Google already provides secure email when Google customers communicate within its infrastructure, but the emails sent by Google users are vulnerable went sent to other email systems. GAME secures all emails sent by Google users, even those sent to other email systems such as Yahoo, according to the news release.
"In the midst of growing awareness regarding data threats, it's more important than ever companies have a reliable solution for the secure exchange of valuable customer and corporate data," said Rick Spurr, Zix Corporation's chairman and CEO, in the news release.
Even with the use of GAME, healthcare providers should still have a business associate agreement in place before using Google apps, as required by HIPAA.
