Gmail services restored after 3-hour outage

Gmail, Snapchat and YouTube, which all use Google's technology, had their services restored on June 2 around 4 p.m. Pacific time after experiencing an hours-long outage, according CNBC.

The outage was limited to only parts of the U.S. Google attributed the downtime to high levels of network congestion in eastern U.S., which affected Google Cloud, G Suite and YouTube. Users began reported the outages at around 12:25 p.m. Pacific time on June 2.

Apple also reported having issues with some applications, including iMessage and iCloud because the company uses Google Cloud for different services.

The cause of the outage is still unclear, according to CNBC.

"We will conduct an internal investigation of this issue and make appropriate improvements to our systems to help prevent or minimize future recurrence," Google told CNBC. "We will provide a detailed report of the incident once we have completed our internal investigation."
