Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City, N.M., has eliminated the CIO position from its senior leadership staff, according to a Silver City Sun-News report.
Former CIO David Furnas announced his resignation last month after coming under fire for refusing to take a pay cut as the hospital faced a financial crisis.
Mr. Furnas will be replaced not by a CIO but by a director of information systems, a position Ken Stone will fill, according to the report.
The executive restructuring was presented as a cost-saving measure, according to the report.
