Physicians who subscribe to Practice Fusion's free, ad-supported electronic health record software will now receive a free Google Chromebook as well.
Practice Fusion's new initiative aims to overcome what it sees as a significant barrier to EHR adoption among physician practices — lack of appropriate hardware. According to data from Practice Fusion, more than 36 percent of physicians are currently using a computer more than three years old, and 4.4 percent are using a computer more than 6 years old.
“The ability to afford hardware to access the web is the single largest barrier for primary care doctors to adopting new technology to manage their patients' health," said Ryan Howard, CEO and founder of Practice Fusion, in a news release. "In addition to our award-winning EHR, we are now going to address the financial burden of purchasing laptops to further serve our growing community and mission."
