Former director of the National Cancer Institute nabs $14M in Series A funding

Mindstrong Health — a startup that uses artificial intelligence and mobile technology to diagnose and treat neuropsychiatric disorders — raised $14 million in Series A funding.

The startup's founding team includes CEO Richard Klausner, MD, former director of the National Cancer Institute, and President Tom Insel, MD, former director of the National Institute of Mental Health. The startup's platform offers real-time digital biomarkers for mood and cognition, including attention and memory measures.

"To improve outcomes for people with mental disorders, we need the kind of objective measures we have for other chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease," Dr. Dagum said.

Foresite Capital and ARCH Venture Partners led the funding round with additional investment from Optum Ventures, Berggruen Holdings and the One Mind Brain Health Impact Fund. Mindstrong Health will use the funding to grow its clinical operations and technology team for research and development projects.
