A growing number of hospitals and health systems have been exploring ways to bring Google Glass, a wearable, hands-free computer, into healthcare. According to recently released patents from Google, providers may soon be able to trade in these glasses for contact lenses.
The patents include lenses with cameras and computer chips to mimic the functionality of Google Glass. Another patent is aimed directly at patients — a lens that could sense glucose levels in diabetics' tears and alert them to spikes or drops.
The lenses, which would not be outwardly visible like Google Glass, may help assuage wearers' concerns of social stigma and even theft of the costly devices.
