First Electronic Healthcare Record Repository Launched

The first large-scale health record bank has been launched in Phoenix, according to a Healthcare IT News report.

eHealthTrust, which launched the first HRB, is also working with physicians who have expressed interest in getting involved with the web-based, zero-cost HRB, a secure repository where patients can store and control their health information.

eHealthTrust is using the Internet business model of providing basic services free-of-charge, as well as various upgrades. One of the free services includes an "in case of emergency" form that can be printed out and carried and which includes vital health information on the patient. The company is working to have an electronic-access version of this form, according to the report. It also offers an optional annual subscription to receive three types of alerts, one which notifies loved ones if a patient's HRB has been accessed by an emergency clinician and two which serve as reminders for health maintenance and prevention.

eHealthTrust and Arizona's regional extension center, Arizona Health-e Connection, are in talks to potentially work together, though no formal partnership has been formed. The company is also in discussions with electronic health record vendors and several sources of medication information. eHealthTrust is also currently testing its data connection with a major laboratory in Phoenix.
