The Food and Drug Administration has approved a smartphone app for diabetes patients that will be available by prescription only, according to a Washington Post report.
BlueStar, developed by healthcare technology firm WellDoc, provides real-time recommendations to diabetes patients on glucose monitoring, and sends a patient's glucose levels and other data directly to his or her physician, according to the report.
The app required FDA approval because it makes medical suggestions to physicians, according to the report.
