Deerfield, Ill.-based Baxter International is teaming up with Verona, Wis.-based Epic to integrate its DoseEdge Pharmacy Workflow Manager with the Epic Willow Inpatient Pharmacy System to improve pharmacy safety and efficiency.
The DoseEdge is a software solution that integrates with hardware used in medication preparation — such as barcode scanners and gravimetric devices — to automate routing, inspecting, tracking and reporting processes on intravenous and oral liquid medication doses.
Under the agreement, clinicians deliver medication dose orders from the Epic EMR to the DoseEdge System. Once the dose is prepared and verified by a pharmacist, the DoseEdge System sends data on each ingredient back to the patient's medical record, to facilitate appropriate billing processes.
The goal of the agreement is to help hospitals efficiently comply with CMS and other payer reporting requirements.
