The names and Social Security numbers of Hurley Medical Center employees and retirees were exposed when they were accidentally attached to an email regarding the employee health plan, according to a MLive-Flint Journal report.
Officials at the Flint, Mich.-based organization say the May 13 email, which was only sent to internal recipients, has been permanently deleted and they have no evidence the data has been misused, according to the report.
"We take our obligation to protect our employees' personal information very seriously and sincerely regret this incident," said Melany Gavulic, RN, president and CEO of Hurley, according to the report. "Immediate steps were taken to reemphasize our policies already in place and conduct refresher training on those privacy policies."
