Emory Healthcare and Grady Health System, both based in Atlanta, have joined the Georgia Department of Public Health and the state's Medicaid program in connecting to Georgia's first statewide health information exchange.
The Georgia Health Information Network was created as a public-private partnership by the state's Department of Community Health. The HIE helps compile information directly from electronic health records as well as provides Medicaid health and pharmacy information and immunization records from the state registry.
Both health systems see easier health data exchange as an important step to providing better care. "Health information exchange is THE critical technology path to care coordination across all domains of care," said Dee Cantrell, CIO of Emory Healthcare, in a news release.
