This week, the Department of Defense released the request for proposals for its Healthcare Management System Modernization contract, an estimated $11 billion project to replace the DoD's EHR system with a commercial solution.
Several bids have already been announced, including three featuring major EHR vendors. Epic and IBM were among the first to announce their intent to bid on the contract, later joined by Epic consulting firm Impact Advisors. Allscripts, CSC and HP have also announced a partnership to bid on the contract, followed by Cerner, Accenture Federal Services and Leidos.
The contract is expected to be worth $11 billion. The new system will serve 56 hospitals and 365 clinics and about 9.7 million patients.
