Principal Deputy National Coordinator for Health IT David Muntz has announced his resignation, according to emails obtained from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT.
Mr. Muntz has served as second-in-command at ONC since January 2012. He is resigning to return to the private sector. He will depart next month along with his boss, outgoing National Coordinator Farzad Mostashari, MD.
Beginning Friday, Oct. 4, Jacob Reider, MD, current director of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer will serve as acting national coordinator, taking over for Dr. Mostashari. Lisa Lewis, deputy national coordinator for operations, will take over for Mr. Muntz as acting principal deputy.
In an email to colleagues and staff, Mr. Muntz wrote: "It is heartwarming and head-pleasing to have worked with all of the federal staff and to represent the providers and patients in the private and public sector who are pulling and pushing us toward a very promising future where the collective efforts will benefit the nation and the world."
