At the 2014 Health Datapalooza conference, the Smart Health Hero app was crowned the winner of the Code-a-palooza challenge. Coming in second place was MyHealth.io, developed by karmadata.
MyHealth.io lets patients find the best nearby surgeon based on the surgeon's volume and the hospital's quality data. The website uses open data sources, private pharmacy claims and medical claims to help patients compare services and physicians.
Sean Power, founder and CEO of karmadata, said most patients have no way to compare surgeons and simply accept referrals from primary care physicians. "MyHealth.io is our opening salvo in creating free tools for patients, putting them in the driver's seat for making informed decisions that impact their own healthcare," Mr. Power said in a news release.
