Researchers from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., and Clemson (S.C.) University are using a $1.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation's Computer Systems Research Program to develop wearable, jewelry-like devices to support health monitoring and management technologies.
The Amulet project is focused on both developing wearable devices that support remote monitoring functionalities and on determining the extent to which such devices offer advantages in availability, reliability, security and usability.
"Our vision is that computational jewelry, in a form like a bracelet or pendant, will provide the properties essential for successful body-area mobile health networks," said Jacob Sorber, PhD, an assistant professor at Clemson's School of Computing, in a news release.
