About one-third of healthcare provider organizations have placed a major IT project on hold due to a lack of qualified IT workers on staff, according to a recent survey of 224 organizations conducted by HIMSS.
The lack of qualified workers has increased the salary expectations of those with the skills healthcare organizations need. According to the 2014 Dice Tech Salary Survey, professionals with some of the most in-demand skills are earning the following average salaries:
- Big data analytics: $106,542
- Enterprise resource planning: $102,757
- Health Level 7: $99,642
- Data warehousing: $98,536
- Computerized physician order entry: $97,757
- HIPAA: $92,773
- Epic: $92,120
- Cerner: $88,963
- General electronic health record systems: $88,769
