With the increasing number of experienced health information exchange vendors in the market, hospitals now look for lower cost options and long-term viability when choosing an HIE vendor, according to a 2011 KLAS report.
According to the study, the top three reasons hospitals choose an HIE vendor, either public or private, are affordability, integration experience and ease of user interface. These elements increase the practicality of the HIE technology for the hospital over the long-term.
