Construction is underway on an all-fiber, public use network connecting Las Vegas and Reno, Nev., that would support telemedicine services.
The Nevada Broadband Telemedicine Initiative is partially funded by a federal grant and matching funds from Pinpoint Network Solutions, which will manage the network. It is part of the Nevada Hospital Association's plan to enable rural providers to take advantage of available telemedicine technology.
"NBTI will allow us to serve patients in Nevada with 21st century telemedicine applications," said Bill Welch, president of NHA, in a news release. "The goal of our member healthcare facilities has always been to provide patients with the best possible care using the latest technology available in the healthcare industry. We feel this network is the next step in living out that goal."
