CommonWell expands service partners

The CommonWell Health Alliance will expand its service partners to at least 5,000 provider sites throughout 2015.

The alliance, which focuses on interoperability, currently reaches 60 provider sites across 15 states. Its services include patient identification, record location, patient privacy and consent and trusted data access, according to a news release.

CommonWell has grown rapidly since its launch two years ago at the annual HIMSS conference. The original cohort of five members has quintupled to 25, and it has announced multiple service agreements in the last few weeks. Watertown, Mass.-based athenahealth will also make CommonWell services available on its cloud network of more than 62,000 providers at no additional charge. Cerner already offers the services for free to its clients and will do so until 2017, according to the news release.

Northern Arizona Healthcare, based in Flagstaff, is the latest additional to the facilities receiving CommonWell's services. Nearly 175 provider sites in 39 states, all Cerner clients, have signed up to receive CommonWell's services since January, according to the news release.
