Code-a-Palooza-Winning App Uses Medicare Data to Inform Consumers' Healthcare Choices

Smart Health Hero, an app that uses Medicare claims data to help users make better decisions about their health, has won the ONC's second annual Code-a-Palooza challenge.

The ONC's challenge, held in conjunction with the annual Health Datapalooza conference, received 56 entries from developers focusing on new ways to use the 2012 Medicare provider data released by CMS in April.

The ONC also recognized PatientPrivilege, a tool that helps users integrate privacy practice notices into their personal health records or patient portals, as the winner of the Digital Privacy Notice Challenge.

"The challenge winners and finalists demonstrate how innovation can bring the value of data and information to help patients make smarter choices about their health and care," said National Coordinator Karen DeSalvo, MD, in a news release.
