Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center plans to implement a telemedicine program to help treat patients in the Dominican Republic, according to a Cincinnati Business Courier report.
Rafael Mena, MD, a native of the Dominican Republic, is spearheading the effort. Dr. Mena completed his medical training at Cincinnati Children's, including a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine, and then returned to the Dominican Republic to practice pediatrics, according to the report.
"Some of my patients and families, particularly those with complex health conditions, will benefit by being able to consult with doctors at Cincinnati Children's," Dr. Mena said in the report.
Telemedicine is not new to Cincinnati Children's. The Center for Telehealth at Cincinnati Children's already offers consultations in pediatric cardiology, neurology, psychiatry, cancer and blood disease and urology, according to the report.
