Mountainside, N.J.-based Children's Specialized Hospital has implemented the use of a robot that allows physicians to interact with patients with special needs and complex medical conditions 24 hours a day, even when the physicians are away from the hospital.
Children's Specialized Hospital is the first pediatric rehabilitation hospital in the country to implement "telepresence" technology through the use of the robot known as VGo, according to the news release.
VGo enables physicians who are physically away from the hospital to interact with patients through the use of a two-way camera and microphones that are connected to robot-style platform that is motor driven. The physicians control the robot using their computer.
"Telemedicine is transforming the way we provide healthcare, and we are fortunate Children's Specialized Hospital can offer this innovative tool to improve patient care and communication between healthcare providers and our patients," said Christopher Haines, DO, CMO at Children's Specialized Hospital, in the news release.
