Washington, D.C.-based Children's National Health System received the 2017 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Enterprise Davies Award for deploying innovative technology to improve the health and lives of children.
Since 1994, the HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award has recognized hospitals and health systems for "excellence in health information technology," emphasizing those that have applied technology to improve patient outcomes while also making a return on investment.
Children's National was recognized for three case studies that demonstrated how it's use of IT improved patient care and reduced costs. Specifically, the hospital uses its EHR and targeted decision support to decrease unnecessary CT scans by 44 percent;its quality boards provide healthcare teams and families with real-time quality and safety information; and its clinical documentation strategy makes physician notes available to all care providers.
"We are so honored to receive this important recognition that represents over 10 years of hard work from hundreds of staff members here at Children's National," said Brian Jacobs, MD, vice president chief medical information officer and CIO. "Our investments in people, processes, technology and innovation are making a remarkable difference in the quality of care that we are able to provide to children and their families. We're proud of the accolade because it lets us know that we're building up our technology services to support the important research that we do and the education that we provide to the next generation of health care providers."
