Since its launch last month, 364 patients have downloaded Lynchburg, Va.-based Centra Medical Group's new telehealth app, according to Work It, Lynchburg.
The app, called Centra 24/7, enables patients to speak with one of American Well's physicians via phone or computer. Each visit costs $49, which is not covered by insurance.
The service is for nonemergency care, such as treatment for the cold or flu. Centra patients receive a visit summary after a Centra 24/7 appointment, which integrates into their EHR. Patients from other health systems can fill out a disclosure form to transfer their record to their primary care provider.
Beth Bankston, vice president of operations for Centra, told Work It, Lynchburg the health system will likely lose about $94,000 in the first year of the program. However, she said Centra expects a large return on investment in the future and plans to expand Centra 24/7 to encompass follow-up appointments.
