CDC, Others Work on Sending Alerts to Physicians Via EHRs

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is teaming up with GE Healthcare and the Alliance of Chicago Community Health Services to test the utilization of health alerts to physicians, according to a Healthcare IT News report.

Physicians would input data into their patients' electronic health records. The data input would then be measured against disease profiles, and resulting matches would be alerted back to the physician's EHR display. The team will start with a six-month study to assess whether alerts are triggered frequently enough and if physicians take heed of the alerts.
