California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) has signed into law several bills aiming to protect consumers by requiring organizations with websites to notify users of any data breaches, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.
The new measures cover all businesses as well as state and local government agencies, and include any breach that could compromise personal information, including breaches of usernames and passwords, according to the report.
Another piece of legislation also signed by Gov. Brown requires websites to inform users if tracking technology is being used, and give users the opportunity to opt out, according to the report.
