BetterHelp, a virtual mental health company owned by Teladoc, is facing a lawsuit that accuses the company of sharing sensitive health information with Facebook and Snapchat for marketing purposes, Top Class Actions reported April 5.
The plaintiff in the lawsuit alleges that BetterHelp failed to safeguard consumers' protected health information after it was allegedly sent to third parties without their consent.
This is the third lawsuit filed against BetterHelp for healthcare data sharing, according to the report.
The lawsuits come after BetterHelp agreed to pay the FTC $7.8 million over allegations it shared customer health data with Facebook, Snapchat, Criteo and Pinterest.
Due to the settlement, the company is now banned from sharing customer health data with third parties for advertising purposes. The company must also ensure that the third-party recipients delete any consumer data they received from BetterHelp.
