Private equity firm Veritas Capital and Evergreen Coast Capital, an affiliate of hedge fund Elliott Management, purchased athenahealth in November for $5.7 billion, closing the largest digital health transaction of 2018, according to a report by market research firm Mercom Capital Group.
There were 223 mergers and acquisitions in the digital health sector during 2018, up from 203 of these transactions during 2017, according to the report. Eighteen companies participated in multiple M&A transactions during 2018.
