As athenahealth's product offerings grow, so do plans for its employee numbers. The Watertown, Mass.-based IT vendor plans to add approximately 1,000 employees this year, according to a Boston Business Journal report.
Last year, athenahealth added approximately 1,300 employees companywide.
In the past month alone, athenahealth has made a couple of acquisitions that help solidify its move into the inpatient hospital market. In January, the company acquired RazorInsights, a cloud-based EHR and financial solutions provider for rural, critical access and community hospitals. Then in February, athenahealth purchased the web-based clinical applications and EHR platform developed by Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
"We acquired key personnel, a product footprint and a successful operating client base that we can learn and grow with," said athenahealth CEO Jonathan Bush in an investor conference call, according to the report.
