Electronic health record vendor athenahealth and cloud-based registry services provider CECity have announced the launch of a health information exchange portal with meaningful use stage 2 quality reporting capabilities.
The gateway will automate the transfer of information from physicians' athenahealth EHRs to clinical registries. The American College of Physicians will be the first national medical organization to receive clinical data through the gateway. The automated transfer to the ACP and other "specialized registries" will help practices fulfill a meaningful use stage 2 requirement on registry reporting.
"We believe data exchange should be a core service embedded in health IT to satisfy things like meaningful use, but more importantly to advance the delivery of high-quality, well-coordinated care," said Doran Robinson, vice president of healthcare transactions at athenahealth, in the news release. The new gateway will allow participating providers "to meet meaningful use specialized registry requirements with no additional effort and at no additional cost, so they can focus on their primary role of efficient, high-quality patient care delivery," he said.
