Most health insurers have only published a few apps and are seeing few downloads.
The majority of health insurance companies, 70 percent, have only published one or two apps each. The ones that have published apps have seen paltry returns, with 67 percent of companies reporting less than 100,000 downloads, according to a study by mobile research company Research2Guidance.
The majority of companies were described as hesitant app publishers, with 9 percent described as active with above average impact. Unsurprisingly, the largest health insurance companies generate the majority of the downloads, according to the report.
Some of the reasons for health insurance companies failing to penetrate the app economy include a failure to produce "state-of-the-art" apps, failing to implement app-integrated incentive schemes and failing to cross-promote their app portfolios, according to the report.
