Apple to Expand Foray Into Mobile Health

Several signs point to Apple significantly expanding its presence in the mobile health market.

In December, several Apple executives met with Food and Drug Administration officials to discuss mobile medical applications, according to a report in The New York Times. At the meeting was new Apple hire Michael O’Reilly, who used to be CMO for health monitoring device manufacturer Masimo.

This meeting, and Mr. O'Reilly's presence, has fueled rumors of an upcoming iWatch that will feature health sensors and a health app to allow users to track vitals like hydration levels and blood pressure, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

A new slate of health and fitness applications will be introduced with the release of iOS 8, increasing the likelihood the iWatch will be released this year, according to the report.
