Apple to create 1,200 jobs at new San Diego campus: 4 notes

Apple plans to establish a new campus and fill 1,200 positions in San Diego within the next three years.

Four notes:

1. The technology giant is hiring individuals for various specialty engineering positions, including hardware and software technologies.

2. Apple aims to hire an estimated 200 employees by the end of 2019.

3. Additionally, the company plans to develop hundreds of thousands of square feet in San Diego for office, lab and research spaces.

4. Apple chose San Diego for its new business venture because of the city's diverse economy, the opportunity to build relationships with academia, and the potential to widen its pool of talent.

"Apple has been a part of San Diego for nearly 20 years through our retail presence and small, fast-growing teams — and with this new investment we are proud to play an even greater part in the city's future," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a news release.
