Apple hires Google X co-founder Yoky Matsuoka to support health initiatives

Yoky Matsuoka, PhD, an engineer who co-founded Google X, will join Apple to work on the company's health initiatives, including HealthKit, ResearchKit and CareKit, reports Fortune.

Dr. Matsuoka, who won a MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Grant in 2007 for her work in neurorobotics, helped launch Google X, the tech company's research and development unit, in 2009. In 2010, she became vice president of technology at Nest Labs.

According to Fortune, Dr. Matsuoka will report to Apple COO Jeff Williams.
