Anthem to send last set of breach notifications by Monday

Nearly two months after it reported a massive cyberattack, Anthem is preparing to send out the last set of breach notification letters by March 30.

A cyberattack against the Indianapolis-based Anthem affected approximately 80 million individuals in early February, and the company has been slowly sending out notification by mail over the last two months. As of March 27, nearly 940,000 people had registered for credit monitoring through AllClearID, Anthem's credit monitoring vendor, according to the Hartford Courant.

The data breach affected information from as far back as 2004, including names, dates of birth, medical ID numbers, Social Security numbers, street addresses, email addresses, employment information and some income information, according to the report. Shortly after the breach, several class action lawsuits were filed against Anthem.

Although it has not been confirmed, security experts suggest the breach is linked to hackers in China, according to cybersecurity firm ThreatConnect.
