Anthem Blue Cross in Calif. offers Spanish-speaking clinicians on telehealth app

There are approximately 41 million native Spanish speakers in the U.S., and 38 percent of them live in California, according to a study from Instituto Cervantes, and reported by The Guardian. For those living in California seeking telehealth options, Anthem Blue Cross is bridging the language gap and offering video visits with Spanish-speaking clinicians.

Members can use Anthem's LiveHealth Online platform to access Cuidado Médico, which will pair them with a U.S.-based, board certified physician to provide the video visit.

"We all know how important it is to talk to a doctor in the language in which you're most comfortable. Cuidado Médico on LiveHealth Online offers a secure way for our members to use their insurance plan and contact a Spanish speaking board-certified doctor via your smartphone or tablet," said Brian Ternan, president of Anthem Blue Cross, in a statement.

For members, the visits are a covered benefit under their health plans, so it will cost roughly the same or less than an in-person primary care visit. Those who are not covered by Anthem or are uninsured can still access Cuidado Médico for $49 per visit.
