The theft of a laptop from a University of California San Francisco physician has compromised the health information of 8,294 people.
The laptop containing protected health information was taken from the locked car of a UCSF School of Medicine gastroenterologist. Though the physician believed the laptop to be encrypted, UCSF could not confirm it was.
UCSF has notified those affected, as well as state and federal authorities.
Last month, another stolen laptop compromised health information at 3,541 patients at UCSF Medical Center.
