Amazon is hiring about 1,400 new workers per day in 2020, including new software engineers and IT specialists, according to a report from The New York Times.
Five details:
1. Amazon added 427,300 new employees in 2020 so far and now has 50 percent more global employees than it did in 2019.
2. Many of the new employees are at warehouses across the U.S. or hired in foreign countries as the pandemic has created high demand for its services. The company is offering up to $3,000 sign-on bonuses.
3. This year Amazon has hired more software engineers and hardware specialists, according to the report, to power cloud computing and other IT enterprises.
4. Amazon could become the largest private employer in the world in two years if it continues to grow at the current pace.
5. The company has around 1,000 workers on the technology side creating human resources software to support its hiring structure and building algorithms to automate the hiring process. Candidates can now apply and be hired without talking to another person directly, according to the report.
